An air suspension truck for example might be prepared for the length of the travel and the load carried but not ready for stormy weather. Outstanding planning and scheduling gets thrown out of the window with the sudden change in the weather. The stormy weather in particular can be very problematic as it can really worsen the driving conditions.

A trucking company that is operating in areas that are frequently hit by such weather conditions must plan and prepare for such occurrences. Trucks must be equipped with the right gear to ensure optimum performance despite the driving conditions. Accessories such as lamps and fog lights must also be considered if needed to increase visibility and improve safety. Many significantly-sized company have radio networks and headquarters that enables immediate information to be provided to the driver. Weather forecast and actions to be taken are advised and followed. However, for small scale operations and individual truckers cannot afford to have this sort of safety network in place. As such, other methods must be sought. Fortunately, technology has made it possible to set up weather alert system without the cost of the personnel and equipment that are used by large operations. Applications on smartphones and other mobile devices makes it possible to stay updated with the latest weather developments across the globe. Some of these weather applications can be purchased on app stores while other phone companies have a free built-in weather app. If you are a driver and worried about getting caught in a bad weather 70 kilometers or an hour away from you, you can simply check the forecast for a certain time and area and you will know what to expect and avoid any potential problems.
